Artist Journal – Update & September Plans

Summer is slowly bidding us farewell for another year and there’s a definite back to school vibe on the suddenly chillier breeze.
My first palette of September was full of Autumnal colours, which is actually a little misleading as it was a painting for a festive(ish) design. I won't share that just yet.
I'd not painted in watercolour for months - first time in the new studio - and was definitely a little rusty. Even us professionals have to keep practising...
Now September has arrived, be prepared for a busy roster of upcoming creations. I step into my creatrix power more easily as spooky season approaches and I have a few commissions to work on, alongside some personal projects and preparing for the return of Mab’s Drawlloween in October.
The other Christmas design I was working on is currently paused as it just wasn’t working. I’ll return to it over the festive period and hopefully I’ll be inspired by the seasonal spirits.
I’ve reviewed the business goals I’ve been working on over the summer and have decided to simplify what I’m working on until the end of the year. It’s easy to become overwhelmed in the autumn and winter months and I’ve learnt from past Hannah that reducing my load is best for my mental and physical health, as well as for my creativity.

Work on the website will pause and be resumed in January 2026. There may still be some small changes made, but the big project is currently on hold.
My main business focus will shift to Hannah Kate Makes wholesale and outreach to potential stockists.
We’ll be back out on tour at in-person events from the end of the month, starting with a firm favourite The WhimsyGoth Market. Join us in Camden on 27th September for their Spooktember edition.
As I mentioned above, I have a lot of creative work on my plate, so that will also be taking up a large portion of my time – as it should!
I’m also working on a limited run of Tiny Art Frames for Lincs Dark Side, an awesome new café and retail space that will be opening in Lincoln in late October. I’ll share progress with those as we go, along with more information on which Hannah Kate Makes goodies will be available to pick up in store.
That’s it for this journal instalment. As always, the best way to keep updated with all things Hannah Kate Makes is to sign up to The Spooky List and receive emails straight into your inbox. You’ll find the form below.
Take care and stay spooky.
