Welcome back dear Reader.
Did you miss me? I’ll assume, maybe – as you’re here reading my thoughts once again!
Time to fill you in on what’s been going on in the world of Hannah Kate Makes since my last blog entry in July…
The summer holiday months saw me take a step back from the business for a much-needed break, my first in five years. We still took our stall on tour up to Leeds Indie Market in July and then down to the NightFair in Brighton in August. It was great to venture further afield, meet some new friends and share our art in new cities.
Taking a rest from the business was truly beneficial for my health and I was raring to get back to creating new art and working on new ideas at the start of September.
Naturally the Universe said:
“No. Not just yet.”
… as my back immediately seized up and rendered me immobile! So, a slower, more sedate, second start happened later in the month. It’s only now that we’re in October that I feel back in the swing of things and am enjoying drawing every day, even if just a little.

The more regular drawing has been helped by my favourite creative challenge of the year: Mab’s Drawlloween. I’m not keeping up with the daily prompts, but I will continue to work through them at my own pace into November. That will give you a little respite from the onslaught of festive cheer that you’ll find on all your feeds once Halloween has passed! I’ll shararte more about my contributions for Drawlloween in future blogs.
I’m also working on not overloading my plate. The aim is to give myself only one big goal to work on during the month, rather than trying to juggle several projects and fail to give any of them the attention they deserve. It’s probably a trick I should have learned by now, but it’s only five years into this adventure that I feel I can focus like this.
Keeping just one goal in sight for the month has been helped greatly by removing the Hannah Kate Makes membership from the range of plates spinning above my head. If you missed the details on why I closed The Library and have stepped away from Patreon, you can read all about that here.
So, on with October!
As touched on, this month’s art goal is to spend time every day creating. I’ll keep sharing updates on Instagram and Facebook and will add a few sketchbook tours for you here as well.
I’ve no in-person events until November, so can spread preparation for them across the weeks between then and now. It’s much easier to work on that in bite-sized chunks rather than a wild panic the week before. However, if you are in the Welwyn Garden City area on the weekend of 19th and 20th October, I do recommend you visit The All Hallow’s Peculiar Market. The trader line-up looks fantastic!
I’m already working on a few festive goodies too, as well as basking in all the spooky goodness that’s floating around this month.
