How Do I Commission My Own Art?

Updated: Mar 25, 2021

I love creating bespoke art for you.

There's nothing quite like taking your vision and ideas, bringing them to life on paper or canvas and then sharing the emotions evoked when you gaze at your very own work of art.

However, I understand that commissioning your own art might be a completely new experience and as such I thought I’d explain a little more about the process!

So, you’ve decided that you’re interested in commissioning your own one of a kind work of art.

Fantastic!

The first terrifying step is to take the plunge and contact me for further information. I promise I don’t bite!

A mobile phone on a table with the greeting "Hello" visible on the screen.

Once you’ve contacted me, I'll arrange a time for a chat so that we can both get to know each other and discuss what kind of art you want to create. This chat can be via phone call, video call, email, message or even in person if you’d prefer!

We’ll discuss your chosen subject or themes, colours you love (or would love to avoid), size, preferred media, where your art will be displayed and why you’re looking for this vision to be brought into the world.

The more we talk, and the more understanding I have of your concept, the better equipped I’ll be to realise it for you.

If you're commissioning a gift for someone else who’s special to you I'll also work with you to get a feel for their likes and loves so that we can produce something that gives both of you the warm and fuzzies when it changes hands!

Sketch books and pencils

I'll sketch up a few ideas based on our initial chat and work with you to hone your favourite(s) to the perfect design. This can happen immediately with almost no tweaking, or there might be a bit of back and forth while we make it perfect for you or them.

At this stage I take your bespoke design away and create your item. Everything I make is hand crafted, drawn and painted by me and, depending on the individual piece of art, can take anything from several hours to weeks to create.

I’ll keep you up to date with progress of your commission with regular photos and communication. Unless of course you’d rather have a “Big Reveal” once it’s fully completed!

Once your art has been created, I'll send you photos to view and approve before you need to make final payment and I’ll arrange delivery to you.

A little piece of me goes into everything I create, and I hope that the love and passion for what I do shines through and adds to the joy that you, or your special someone, feels with your commission.

So, now you know!

Feel free to contact me if you'd like something unique made just for you or if you have any further questions on the process.
