Social Media Break and Ozzy!

In last week’s blog I talked about the year so far, the ups and downs, creative choices that had been made and events that have impacted Hannah Kate Makes as a business.

I decided to pause on the threshold of July and spend time noticing what the first half of 2026 had taught me, allowing myself space to recover properly from June’s illness and to review how I wanted the rest of the year to look. Luckily this pause has coincided with yet another record-breaking heatwave so slowing down has been enforced by the fireball in the sky!

My first decision has been to step back from social media for the rest of the month, removing the pressure I was feeling to post regularly while I was still in a state of flux. I’d have preferred to abandon the socials until September, but I have an event in August that I need to promote so my return will be sooner than I’d have liked!

I’ll be spending this month getting back to basics with the business. Reinstating processes that had fallen away with the move and the following (never-ending) building works, drawing daily and finding the fun in the work again. Once things feel more manageable and filled with a little more joy I will move forward once more.

Having said that, I’ve decided to make a big change to Hannah Kate Makes that will make the business feel more authentically mine again and give me the space to create more freely. I’ll talk more about that in the coming months, and you can expect to see changes and updates rolled out from the beginning of January.

This week I’ve finished a warm-up study of Ozzy in preparation for a tribute piece I am creating to mark the first anniversary of him leaving us, later this month. You can see the work in progress photos below. It’s a simple pencil drawing in my A5 sketch pad and I enjoyed the feeling of my hand remembering how to draw with something that didn’t need to be “perfect”.
